Note from Editor

When we launched this journal in 2015, the question we kept circling was a simple one — could a computational research community still write for one another the way scholars wrote a century ago: carefully, slowly, and at length? Volume 10 is our answer. Across sixteen papers this year, contributors take up problems in workflow orchestration, federated learning, and the engineering of scientific software with a seriousness that resists the demand for quick answers. The lead article on AWS-orchestrated ML pipelines is, in many ways, a state-of-the-field essay disguised as a systems paper. We remain — as ever — a diamond open access publication: no charges to authors, no paywall to readers. Read freely. Cite generously.
